Using identical conductors for signal and return is a very easy way to improve the performance of an audio cable - something Chord has been doing for many years. With many XLR cables, the two signal leads end up being used to carry the hot (in phase) and the cold (out of phase) signals, while the ground/return connection is made with the screen.
We think there is a better way, so we add a third identical conductor to carry the ground/return signal. It takes the screen out of the loop, and by doing so the Chord can seriously reduce unwanted interference. All Chords XLR analog cables are built this way.
Chord also mounts the Tuned ARAY conductor geometry, protective black braid and Neutrik XLR connectors – equipped with Chord Company ChorAlloy™ coated connector pins.
By using separate shielding on all three conductors and the Tuned ARAY conductor geometry, Chord has been able to produce a neutral and musically transparent XLR cable.
