Like the V 40 SE, the V 70 SE benefits from the experience OCTAVE has gained in developing its predecessors. Numerous improvements compared to the previous V 70 model make up the new V 70 SE. Embedded in the larger, optimized chassis construction of the V 80, the V 70 SE now offers higher performance, while the sensitive electronic circuits are better protected against the magnetic radiation field of the transformer and power supply. The power supply's transformer is itself a special low-noise type, encased in a magnetically closed box.

The output stage consists of two power tetrodes (Type 6550 C) per channel. Thanks to the BIAS Control and Monitoring System, it is possible to use other pin-compatible output tubes to adapt the amplifier to personal taste or take advantage of new or improved tubes.

The V 70 SE, like all OCTAVE amplifiers, is based on the improved pentode configuration. This configuration ensures absolute stability against the speaker's unstable impedance. Impedance mismatch is of no consequence as the amplifier is stable down to a 2 ohm load. An important factor in this stability is the single impedance output transformer.

OCTAVE, with the advanced Black Box technology, offers a unique instrument to optimize the OCTAVE amplifier in relation to the loudspeaker. This flexibility is a distinctive feature of the OCTAVE brand. The dynamics and tonal stability of the amplifier are closely related to the stability and capacity of the power supply. Therefore, the Black Box and Super Black Box were developed as external upgrades to the OCTAVE amplifiers' power supply storage capacitors by increasing their capacity by a factor of 4 (Black Box) or 10 (Super Black Box) respectively.

This is a huge advantage, especially when the speaker is difficult to drive. The efficiency of the speaker becomes less critical, while the amplifier becomes capable of handling speakers with a minimum impedance as low as 2 Ohms.

The increased power delivery capability achieved by using the Black Box or Super Black Box stabilizes power delivery and reduces impedance interaction with the load. This improves dynamic range, separation, depth, soundstage and articulation, making musical reproduction clearer throughout the frequency range. The amplifier remains unaffected by mains variations and interferences thanks to the noise filtering properties of the capacitors.
